James Bell

James Bell is the Managing Director of Farber Tax Solutions and Senior Advisor at Farber Tax Law and leads the team of ex-CRA advisors* who support Farber Tax Law’s group of lawyers.

Before joining Farber Tax Solutions in 2013, he worked at the CRA for over 22 years, holding senior roles across several departments, including Audit, Collections, Investigations and Appeals.  As such, James knows and understands the internal processes of the CRA, and the flow of files from audit to dispute resolution and litigation.  James’ vast experience enables him to provide insight and support – both tactically and strategically – on how best to resolve disputes and otherwise effectively engage with the CRA. 

James is keen to help people learn about tax disputes and is a frequent speaker at Knowledge Bureau events, a forum for accountants and other financial professionals. He has also contributed to national newspaper articles and has served as a tax professional in print articles and radio talk shows, offering advice and guidance to taxpayers.

He holds a Business Communication (Accounting) Degree from Dalhousie University.

In his free time, James enjoys photography, especially in the areas of architecture and landscapes.   James is proud of his aboriginal ancestry and is a member of the Kespu’kwitk Métis Council.
